sustainability
Rachel Skinner Millinery is focused on conscious production methods that do not harm the environment. We believe in a circular approach to sustainability; our fabrics and materials are of the highest quality, and wherever possible are locally manufactured, or sourced from designer dead stock mills, recycled, or up-cycled from vintage textiles. When we can we source our feathers seasonally from wild fowl centers, coloring them using natural dyes and trimming them by hand. We create our floral details by hand, molding individual petals from vintage silks and other fine fabrics, with minimal or no wastage.
Rachel’s passion for sourcing unique millinery adornments has, for 30 years, taken her to some of the worlds finest and most far flung vintage markets, flea markets and estate sales, where she collects and repurposes jewelry, accessories and vintage designer clothing as one-of-a-kind millinery trimmings. As a company, our adherence to traditional millinery methods means that we hand-block, hand-mold, and hand stitch our work, with no factory production footprint. We also use only paper and card packaging, and reuse single-use plastics.
